During Hours Resources
What should I do if I have a medical question during office hours?
If you have a medical question during office hours, call our office and ask to leave a message for Cindy, our triage nurse. She will then assess your phone call to determine whether it is urgent or routine. If it is an urgent medical question, we will return your call within 4 hours. If it is a routine medical call, we will return your call within 24 hours. Am I able to send medical questions via e-mail? If you have a non-urgent medical question, you can login to the Patient Portal located at our website. From there, you can choose the “Ask a Nurse” feature to send a secure electronic message to our office. Our Triage Nurse will review your message and respond via Patient Portal or telephone. You can utilize this service any time, day or night. Please call our office if you do not have a portal log-in or if you need to reset your password. *Note: Do NOT use the Patient Portal for any emergency or urgent medical questions. What should I do if my child needs to be seen during office hours? It is the policy of the practice to accommodate same-day appointment requests whenever possible. If your child is sick and requires immediate care (but not so serious he needs to go to the emergency room), call our office to schedule a same-day sick visit. If there are no appointments left available for the day, our triage nurse will speak with you to determine if we need to overbook. If your child requires routine care (i.e. physicals, seasonal allergies, medication rechecks), you may also call our office to schedule the next available appointment. Where should I go if my child needs to be seen emergently? We recommend Florida Hospital Orlando’s Disney Pavilion or Arnold Palmer Hospital’s Children’s Emergency Department. However, when necessary, go to your nearest emergency room. For less serious conditions, such as broken bones requiring x-rays or lacerations that require suturing, we recommend urgent cares such as the Jewett Orthopedic walk-in locations (www.jewettortho.com) or Florida Hospital Centra Care (www.centracare.org). Advise the staff wherever you go that we are the child’s primary care physician and call our office to let us know where you went to so we can request records and add them to your child’s chart for continuity of care. What if the doctor at the urgent care or emergency room needs to contact my child’s primary care physician? In cases of emergencies, sometimes it is necessary for the doctor seeing you to reach one of our providers. Please advise them to call our office and ask to speak with your doctor. What if I am not sure that my child needs to be seen? If you are not sure whether your child needs to be seen or if there is home treatment available, call our triage nurse (as listed above) and she will be able to advise you of what to do. |
